Emptying of West Kirby Marine Lake

dsc_8267

West Kirby Marine Lake is now being drained so they can repair the wall. Its not as exciting as a protest but there are a couple of whirlpools near the drains which are attracking some attention. One even has a few bottles in just spinning around and around and around. Its quite hypnotic. On the opposite side of the wall water spews out. You can, if you want to, watch the very slow progress on Wirral Cam.

  1. Hi Pete,
I live in West Kirby, funnily enough – have just moved back there temporarily, after growing up there in the late 70s and the 80s. Quite strange to see the Lake in its current state – it’s interesting to see the tide come in and soak the promenade…something that hadn’t happened since I was a small child, presumably due to the sluice gates like the one you’ve photographed above being opened.
Anyway – I like the contrast here between the stillness of the Dee Estuary on the horizon and the more forceful water in the foreground.

  2. Wonderful b/w shot. Excellent composition with the sky and the water.

  3. Nice sense of motion in this shot. Excellent composition.
