Each year there is a Walk of Remembrance in Liverpool to recognise the past, contemplate the present and work towards a better future where no-one is a slave.
Standing up against slavery, even in 2025, is important. Today there are around 50 million people, roughly 1 in 200, living in slavery. “Didn’t we abolish slavery?”, yes but 49% of countries do not make it illegal. It should be a solved problem. It isn’t. Modern slavery is way worse than what you know as slavery.
