Jim Moir is having his first exhibition at a national gallery, the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight. I was commissioned by National Museums Liverpool to photograph him while he was visiting the gallery. If you are only familiar with his work as comedian Vic Reeves, I would highly recommend exploring his art. It is beautiful, fun and asks the question “Why isn’t art more fun?” His son produced a documentary exploring that question with Jim called “A brush with comedy”. Not only that but Jim and his wife Nancy have been touring the country searching for birds to paint with Sky Arts. It is fascinating watching an artist at work and Jim reminds people to play, experiment, and have fun. Make the land orange not green. Don’t be afraid if the proportions are wrong. Paint. Play. See what happens. It’s a great way to work and something I try and do with my own art.
It was a lot of fun to photograph Jim and I can’t wait to see the exhibition when “Dawn to Dusk” opens in June.
