Where am I today?

A few weeks ago I created a morning routine. Get up. 5km run. Breakfast. Write blog. Shower. Sit down at desk and start the day. It was going well for a while until I got ill. I do plan to get back into it because what I’ve noticed over the past few weeks is that my productivity has gone down. I’m blogging simple images rather than decent crafted content because I’m getting to 11pm and remembering that I need to post something. I pondered whether running would make me a better photographer and I feel like it will/did. So I need to get back to that.

I am enjoying blogging again. It’s nice be doing this again. I know it’s not the best content to monetise these days compared to YouTube or podcasts but it’s something I can do while eating breakfast. So I feel productive even before I’ve sat down in the office. I’ve been blogging since 2001 and it’s nice to be able to say I’ve been doing it 17 years. That said, I don’t think I’ve ever really made it into anything and that is something I’d like to remedy. I don’t mean this will be a blog about photography, cameras, apple tech or running tips. What I’d like to do is just make it more focused than “Here’s a pretty photo I took.” I’ll still post pretty pictures from time to time because that’s what I love to do.

I tried podcasting. It didn’t stick. The simple reason being that what I thought would be an interesting podcast turned out to be repetitive and just not good. I’ve got 100,000 items in my iCloud Photo Library and the ability to travel around my lifetime from 6 months of age to about 2 hours ago. I could Quantum Leap about at will. It seemed like a fun idea but what really happened was every other day the photo was me walking along the prom. I became frustrated with the lack of interesting photos to jump around in. Maybe the issue isn’t with the photos but with my lack of creativity to turn it into an interesting or fun discussion point. Maybe if there was someone to bounce stupid photos off then it would be more fun? I dunno. I would like to return to it. Maybe weekly.

I need to sit down and perhaps schedule podcast/blog stuff so I know what I’m doing each day instead of trying to pluck something out the air and flapping about like a fish dying on a beach. That’s the missing thing here I think. Organisation. Routine etc. So I’m back to running again. That’s the key.
